BUSKING can be a colourful experience. Local singer/songwriter Krista Green has seen it all during her busking on the streets of Bournemouth.

“For some reason because you are putting yourself out there on the street, normal social boundaries get blurred. Even in the broad light of day ‘merry’ people have tried to barge me out of the way of my own microphone so they can have a sing. One chap even tried to snog me out of the blue,” says Krista, 26.

Luckily, her bizarre experiences have stood her in good stead, as now, she says, busking has become a more important way for musicians to be heard as many live music venues close doors or can’t afford to pay for live music owing to the recession.

“The thing is to get out there and get spotted. The more you’re seen, the better your chances are of making real progress.”

From busking, the Bournemouth Unplugged Winner of 2011 has secured free recording time, been booked for gigs and even been invited to play lullabies for two baby otters at Weymouth Sea Life Park.
