“IT’S all of us versus cancer”.

This is the rallying call from volunteers who took to the streets of Bournemouth yesterday to encourage mums, daughters, sisters, grandmas and friends to enter this year’s Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

The team took part in zumba dancing throughout the day at their stand in Bournemouth Square while urging shoppers to sign up to their races at Bournemouth Pier Approach on Sunday June 17 and Poole Park on Sunday June 24.

There will be two 5k races and one 10k race in Bournemouth and two 5k races in Poole.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year for life-saving research into 200 types of cancer – helping men, women and children across the South West survive.

Rachel White, Cancer Research UK’s south events manager, said: “Come on ladies – please enter Race for Life in Bournemouth and Poole. It’s all of us versus cancer and we need you to join the fight as soon as possible.

“Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.

“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. The really startling fact is that in the same period of time, around three people in the South West will be diagnosed with cancer.”

Just under 30,000 people are affected by cancer in the South West every year and money raised by the charity is crucial to the pioneering work of doctors, nurses and scientists who are fighting cancer on all fronts.

Last year, 9,125 women took part in the Bournemouth and Poole Race for Life events and raised a fantastic £493,453.

This year, organisers want 9,250 women and girls to put their best foot forward and help raise £498,066 for vital research.
