COUNCILLORS stressed their commitment to building new council houses as they battle to reduce the housing waiting list.

A total of 105 council houses will be built on 11 sites in Bournemouth.

One of these sites is at Craigmoor Avenue and Bradpole Road in Strouden Park but the other sites have not yet been publicly identified.

Deputy leader Cllr John Beesley said: “It’s an ongoing commitment of this council to be building more housing at a time when housing associations are generally struggling and the private sector likewise is doing little, there is a clearly defined waiting list.”

He said he anticipated there would be around 2,500 families on the list once a new allocations policy had been approved.

Cllr Lynda Price said: “This is a really good news story for Bournemouth, what a plus for those families who are on the waiting list.”
