THE edge of Poole Harbour was frozen over again as temperatures plummeted over the weekend to –8C.
This was the second time in a week that the sea froze, as a weather warning for continuing freezing conditions was issued for Dorset.
The previous weekend as the big freeze hit and –7C was recorded, a thin layer of ice spread out from the shoreline to 450 yards into the harbour, close to Sandbanks’ Millionaires’ Row.
It is extremely rare for the sea to freeze around the UK and marine scientists say Poole Harbour is susceptible because of the water’s low salt content.
