A MAN has appeared in court charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent on a woman.

Paul Logan Bell, from Upton in Poole, appeared at Bournemouth Magistrates Court yesterday.

The 38-year-old is alleged to have attacked 45-year-old Michaela Trunwitt with a hammer on February 3 in Sandy Lane, Upton.

Bell, of Oasis Mews, Dorchester Road, was remanded in custody until a hearing on Tuesday, February 14, to commit the case to the crown court.

He appeared in court dressed in a blue polo T-shirt with light coloured stripes.

The court heard Bell and his wife were originally from Ellesmere Port in Cheshire but came to Dorset for work.

Prosecutor Roger Hall told the court the alleged victim required hospital treatment for head injuries.

No formal plea has yet been taken.

Michael Flynn, defending, applied for bail on the conditions Bell lived in Ellesmere Port, kept out of Dorset, obeyed a curfew, did not contact the alleged victim, and reported to Northwich police station. Bail was not granted
