A SUCCESSFUL neighbourhood watch group in Bournemouth has been selected to make a film warning residents about bogus callers.

Old Littledown members were on hand to help out in acting roles for the production, due to be shown on a national community channel later this year.

Neighbourhood Watch chief Tim Stearn has joined forces with Bournemouth University and hopes the film will help people avoid becoming victims of crime and also raise the profile of his group.

He has plans for it to be made into a DVD which could be distributed across the Dorset area.

Mr Stearn, who has established a team of street stewards in the area, originally applied for funding from the NatWest Community Force but was turned down.

He said: “National Lottery representatives had a look at all the applications to NatWest and noticed what we were doing so they got in touch.

“They provided the funding through the Media Trust and we are delighted to be involved in the project.”

The film has two possible endings, one where the caller is a neighbour and another where it is a bogus caller.

Local councillor Lawrence Williams said: “It is a reminder for people to be on their guard and also to keep an eye open for vulnerable neighbours.”
