A CELEBRATORY song is being created to be played at the official opening of the Twin Sails Bridge.

Pupils from Branksome Heath Middle School in Poole have been asked to help Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with the piece, to be revealed at the ceremony on March 9.

BSO children’s composer Paul Rissmann was commissioned to compose a short celebratory overture for the occasion and Year Five pupils will be providing the lyrics and the inspiration.

Financial support came from JP Morgan, which allowed Paul to spend a day at the school, talking with the children as they researched the history of Poole.

He will now write the music and return to the school to put words and tune together.

Dorcas Williams of JP Morgan said: “We are pleased to support a creative community project.”

The brand new piece, backed by the full Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, will be sung in front of an audience of thousands as Poole celebrates the official opening of its £21m bridge.

Year Five teacher Rachelle Kent said: “It’s really exciting to know we will be singing our song with other children from Poole.

“It has been a privilege to work with Paul Rissmann and the BSO.

“5RK found researching Poole’s local history really interesting and we feel very lucky to be able to promote Poole across the country in such a special way.

“It’ll be an experience they can always remember.”

Head teacher Stuart Fox added: “This has been a great opportunity for our Year Five children and we look forward to a very special celebration at the opening.”
