PRECIOUS metal objects have been taken from a church near Blandford.

The Rev Stephen Coulter of Holy Trinity Church, in Stourpaine, says the sentimental value of the seven stolen brass vases and two lecterns far outweighs what the offenders will get for them.

Striking in Manor Road between 2pm on Monday, January 30, and 8.30am on Tuesday, January 31, the culprits unscrewed a brass lectern bolted to the floor. Mr Coulter said: “This seems a pointless crime as they won’t get much money for the objects, particularly as the vases had been given in memory of loved ones.

“Parishioners are greatly distressed by it.”

The brass lectern was made within the community and had been in the church for more than 100 years, police say.

Anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
