DORSET’S oldest animal charity has appointed a new fundraising manager – and he is asking for the public’s help to ensure abused animals get the loving homes they deserve.
Robert Machon joins Margaret Green Animal Rescue after two years as charity manager for Hope, an organisation working with vulnerable children and young people.
Mr Machon said: “I have loved animals for as long as I can remember.
“I’m looking forward to doing as much as I can, together with the brilliant team here, to help Dorset’s abused, unwanted and neglected animals.”
One of Mr Machon’s first jobs is to ask the public to help him find new fundraising contacts.
“I would like to ask the public to help me,” he said.
“If you aren’t in a position to fundraise, perhaps you would be able to support us in a different way?
“Do you know a friend or colleague in business that would be willing to discuss how we can work together?”
Margaret Green is based in Church Knowle, Purbeck – where the main sanctuary and visitor centre is sited.
But the charity also has rescue and re-homing centres at Lincoln Farm, Winterborne Kingston, and in Devon.
However, the animals they work to re-home come from across Dorset, including Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth.
Mr Machon said: “Everybody knows someone who loves animals and would be willing to help. Please call me with details of any people you know who may be open to working with us.”
Through the charity’s three centres more than 1,000 animals are rescued and re-homes every year, including dogs, cats. Horses, farm animals, rabbits, guinea pigs and birds.
