MEET the Birch family’s latest signing.
This is baby Alfie Fletcher Charlie Birch or AFCB for short.
Dad, Stuart, 34, and mum, Sharon, 26, welcomed baby Alfie on January 30, the day before the Cherries deadline for transfers.
But the name for their new baby – if it was a boy – had already been decided and now, little Alfie is set to be a fan of the football club, from the day he was born.
Stuart said: “Sharon and I had talked about names for a boy and a girl, because we didn’t know what it was going to be, and we had decided on Alfie Fletcher Birch for a boy.
“But when I mentioned it to my friends, they said that we had to add in the ‘C’ part, to make it stand for AFC Bournemouth.
“So, I discussed it with Sharon and she agreed to it. However, the in-laws and my parents weren’t so enthusiastic.
“If the baby had been a girl, her name would have had no relevance to the club, but when we saw he was a little boy, the name was already thought out for him.
“I’ve been a season ticket holder for 20 years, and I’m a bit of a Twitter fan, so I’ve already let Steve Fletcher know and he’s given his support to it.
“This week has been a really good one for me, actually, what with the transfer signings to the Cherries, and our little baby being born.
“I’ve been joking that he is my new signing of the week.
“I’ve been desperate to go to the Cherries shop and buy the baby lots of clothes, but as we didn’t know whether what sex it would be, I had to wait for it to be born.
“Now, I’m going to be spending a fortune in there, and we’ve already got red and black pram for him, as well as a little knitted Bournemouth shirt, done by Sharon’s aunty, with ‘Birch’ on the back.
“He’s got big hands, so he could be a good goalkeeper in the future.
“When we get the chance, I want to take him down so he can see the ground for himself.
He just better not grow up to be a Southampton fan!”
