ON the basis of what’s good for Bournemouth Airport is good for the local economy, the announcement by Ryanair that it will be operating three new routes this summer is very welcome news indeed.

The Irish carrier has added Malta, Rhodes and Carcassone to its schedule from Bournemouth as from March.

These are difficult times in most sectors of the economy and the travel and tourism industry always fares pretty badly in a downturn for obvious reasons.

The airport has had its share of disappointments in recent times but it is not alone in that.

It’s a national and international situation. But the additional Ryanair routes and other new services like Blue Islands to the Channel Islands, may indicate a chink of light at the end of the tunnel. Certainly with its £50m transformation, Bournemouth Airport will be very well positioned when the good times come back.
