A SECOND public meeting on the Burton Road footbridge will take place on Wednesday January 18.

Dorset County Council is inviting local people to discuss work to replace the Burton Road footbridge over the A35 Christchurch bypass.

This is a second opportunity for those who missed the first meeting before Christmas.

The 1960s-built footbridge has been weakened by impact damage and its stepped ramps and headroom fail to meet current accessibility criteria.

Work by the county council’s contractor Raymond Brown will begin in late January and is expected to be completed by mid-June.

The meeting will be held at Burton Primary School from 6pm until 8pm.

The A35 will be reduced to one lane between the Stony Lane and the Somerford roundabouts in both directions during working times.

Engineers have already responded to some concerns and lane restrictions will now be in place between 9am and 3pm on Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings, instead of a later time slot, to minimise delays during school pick-up times.
