BUDDING local musicians will now be able to enrol on a new course that offers professional music training in Bournemouth from next month.

The Academy Of Contemporary Music (ACM) is to open the ACM Regional South Coast on Wimborne Road, Bournemouth in mid-February.

The scheme has been created in partnership with The Music Factory, which has been providing music education in the area since 2004 and will offer musicians from the south coast the opportunity of a career in the music industry through a range of courses previously unavailable outside of ACM’s Surrey base.

ACM Regional South Coast will teach up to and including Further Education study, offering full and part-time courses to lead students into successful music careers.

Tutors include musicians who have worked with the likes of Van Morrison, Jools Holland, Radiohead and Tina Turner.

The organisation has already produced students who have become platinum selling artists such as Newton Faulkner, Amelle Berrabah of the Sugababes and Ted Dwane of Mumford & Sons.

Speaking about the launch, Julia Leggett, executive director of ACM Commercial said: “From the very first meeting we knew that the team at the Music Factory were ideal partners to develop the first UK Regional Centre.

“They had already built up a thriving part-time school and shared our values and aspirations. We are looking forward to building on this success with them to create a vibrant full and part-time study centre.”

Rob Birchall, director of ACM Regional South Coast said: “The news is a real boost to music education in Bournemouth.

“We want our passion to spread into the community. From beginners to dedicated players, there is a course here for everyone.

“Musicians and aspiring musicians, young and old, have a truly fantastic opportunity to become a part of something that is globally recognised as a market leader and innovator. It is a privilege for us to be a part of this venture.”

• ACM Regional South Coast is holding an open day on January 27 from 6pm to 9pm.
