A damaged bridge in Wimborne is being temporarily fixed and will re-open in time for tonight's rush hour.
Historic Julian's Bridge, on the B3078, has been closed since Friday when a removals lorry collided with a parapet.
Surveyors visited to inspect the damage this morning and concrete blocks are being brought in to make the bridge safe.
Traffic will be allowed back over the bridge by 5pm tonight.
A Dorset County Council spokesman said: "By 5pm we will at the very least have traffic lights in place and the bridge will be open with one lane working."
They aim to have both lanes open.
A full repair programme to replace matching masonry will have to wait until Spring, they added.
