A MAN was taken to hospital with critical injuries after he was attacked outside a pub in Pokesdown on Saturday evening.

Detectives in Bournemouth are appealing for information following the serious assault outside The Seabournes pub - previously The Bell - opposite Pokesdown Railway Station on Christchurch Road.

The man, who is believed to be in his twenties, was attacked by a group of three or four men around 10pm on Saturday night.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is in a stable but critical condition.

Detective Inspector Becky Riggs from Bournemouth CID said: “Following the attack, I understand that the offenders made off towards Boscombe.

“I would like to speak with any witnesses who may have been in the area around the Seabourne Pub or Pokesdown Railway Station, and anyone who has any information about this incident or the offenders, as soon as possible.

“All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

A cordon and white forensic tent remained in place on Sunday at the scene while investigators worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A forensic officer was also present.

Officers are analysing CCTV footage as well as making house to house enquiries following the attack.

The pub was open as usual on Sunday but management declined to comment on the incident.

Witnesses and anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
