GRAMMY-winning singer Adele has been forced to cancel her re-scheduled Bournemouth show at the BIC on November 12.

The effects of a severe chest infection have plagued the 23-year-old since first cancelling in September.

A spokesperson for the singer issued the following statement yesterday: "It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011. She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat and a full recovery is expected. As a result, doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments."

The statement added: "Ticket holders for all cancelled live dates will receive a refund from the point of purchase. We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused, and appreciate your understanding during this time."

The BIC has said they will be in contact with ticket holders, as there are currently no plans for Adele to return to the region.

The Grammy-winner's hits include Chasing Pavements and Someone Like You. Her number one album 21 narrowly missed out on the 2011 Mercury Music Prize in July to Bridport singer PJ Harvey.

Englebert fans left in a hump

FANS of singer Engelbert Humperdinck will now have to wait until the spring to see him perform in Bournemouth, after his show tonight was cancelled.

Those who had bought tickets for the performance have been written to by the BIC and can claim refunds if they cannot attend the new date of March 17, 2012.

But some are upset that they were only informed last week about the change.

A statement on behalf of Mr Humperdinck said: “Due to unforeseen overlapping recording and touring schedules Engelbert has unfortunately had to postpone three dates on the upcoming tour into March of next year.

“Engelbert is sorry for these adjustments but promises an incredible evening with the Humpster.”

Two upset fans of the singer, known for hits Release Me and The Last Waltz, wrote to the Daily Echo in anger.

Colin and Val Breed were planning a trip from Kent for the concert and said the reasons given by the tour promoter were “waffle”.

Mr Breed wrote: “If Mr Humperdinck cannot fulfil his engagements because his voice might not hold out because of his age, then perhaps he should think about retiring rather than letting people down.

“My wife and I booked the concert and two nights in a Bournemouth hotel so we could give my mother-in-law Daphne a special 80th birthday to remember.

“She has been looking forward to seeing Mr Humperdinck all year, and now the concert has been cancelled with less than a week’s notice. Naturally she is so disappointed.”
