TALKS are still continuing over plans to transform a run-down former private school into a 60-bed care home.

Christchurch Borough Council and Quantum Lifecare are still hammering out details on the application to transform Homefield School at Winkton into a care home with 29 independent living units.

The scheme includes the restoration of the former Regency villa at the front of the school and the removal of the more modern extensions.

It is unsure when the plans, which are the latest in a long line of applications from various developers over the years, are expected to go to planning control committee.

Burton Parish Council has recently added their support to the scheme.

Judy Jamieson, chairman of the parish council said: “We are supporting the application for Homefield School in principal and would be delighted if action was as soon as possible.”

Members of the council and planning officers were shown a presentation of the plans by Quantum recently.

She added: “The sooner we can get a presentable gateway into the village the better.”

Henry Lumby, partner at Quantum Lifecare said: “We are currently working with Christchurch Borough Council to get the application through and as soon as permission is granted we want to get on site and start work.

“We realise the site is a burden to the local community and are keen to get on with the plans.”

Homefield closed in 2005, nearly £1million in debt.

The former school, which is currently hidden behind tall hoardings in an attempt to deter vandals, is rundown and dilapidated, with graffiti adorning the outside of the buildings and broken glass strewn about the paths.
