TWIN triumphs have been celebrated in Poole as the conquering pirates paraded in front of the town’s newest structure.

Borough of Poole marked the success of Poole Pirates winning the Elite League, Elite League Pairs and Knockout Cup with a civic reception.

Poole Mayor, Cllr Graham Wilson, presented them with inscribed commemorative Poole Pottery plates to join the silverware, and they met council leader Cllr Elaine Atkinson and chief executive John McBride.

After being guests of honour at the Civic Centre, Poole Castle Cover Pirates captain Dave Watt, Chris Holder, Darcy Ward, Kyle Newman, team manager Neil Middleditch and promoters Matt Ford and Giles Hartwell were treated to a close-up view of the Twin Sails Bridge.

“Last week we celebrated the leaves lifting on our world class Twin Sails Bridge and now we can celebrate the fantastic achievements of our world class speedway team,” said Cllr Atkinson.

“The team are a tremendous asset to the town and I look forward to seeing what they can accomplish next season.”

Making his tribute, Cllr Wilson said: “The achievements of the Poole Pirates this season are fantastic and I was thrilled to witness the Knockout Cup victory last week.

“On behalf of Borough of Poole I’d like to congratulate them for their tremendous achievement.”

Thanking the council for their support, Matt Ford, owner and promoter of Poole Pirates, said: “We are immensely proud of our success this season.”

Under his promotion the speedway team has won the Elite league and cup double for the third time. “We had a successful and wonderful time with the mayor and dignitaries and it was a pleasure to be given a showing of the fabulous new bridge.”
