HISTORY fans will be able to see three iconic World War Two planes on every day of this year’s Bournemouth Air Festival, thanks to a new sponsorship deal.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – made up of a Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster bomber – will roar over the seafront backed by festival partner National Express Coaches.

All three aircraft played a vital role during World War Two, not least during the aerial dogfights of the Battle of Britain and, in the Lancaster’s case, on long-range bombing missions that helped the Allies win the conflict.

Since its formation in 1957, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has flown thousands of displays; a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice the thousands of pilots and bomber crews gave to secure the freedom of a grateful nation.

It gained huge exposure earlier this year when the three planes performed a flypast at the wedding of its patron, Prince William, to Kate Middleton.

Jonathan Pollard, head of business development at National Express said: “The BBMF showcases some of Britain’s most iconic aircraft and we’re proud to support such an important part of the nation’s heritage.

“National Express is a distinctly British brand and we’re always keen to showcase the transport heritage of the UK.”

As part of its deal supporting this year’s event, the coach firm is offering 50 per cent off coach travel to the Bournemouth Air Festival if booked before July 31 via nationalexpress.co.uk.
