Cherries are today expected to announce the signing of Crystal Palace defender Adam Barrett.

Barrett is set to move to the Seward Stadium after the two clubs agreed a fee.

The 31-year-old will become boss Lee Bradbury’s third summer signing, following goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan and midfielder Steven Gregory.

Barrett played alongside Bradbury and Flahavan at Southend and joined Palace on a free transfer from the Essex outfit a year ago.

Although reports last week suggested Cherries had failed in an attempt to sign Barrett, the speculation proved to be premature.

Barrett initially met Bradbury for talks seven days ago and is also understood to have spoken with Notts County boss Martin Allen.

And despite returning for the start of pre-season training with Palace, Barrett continued his dialogue with Bradbury and agreed personal terms over the weekend.

Barrett’s arrival will bolster Cherries’ central defensive resources following the departure of skipper Jason Pearce to Portsmouth. He could also be a leading contender to captain Cherries next season.

Bradbury’s squad return tomorrow for the start of pre-season training.
