A BUS company is to review a route after Poole residents complained it left them cut off and unable to get to the town’s hospital.

A petition of more than 300 signatures was handed in to Poole Council by Alderney ward’s Cllr Tony Trent, from residents upset at the re-routing of the number 14 bus.

In May the service was extended to East Howe but cut out a large part of Wallisdown, leaving many residents without a bus link they had enjoyed since the area was developed in the early 1950s.

“Many of the residents have lived here all their adult lives and are getting quite elderly,” said Cllr Trent. “This service is a lifeline for many and should have been maintained.”

He said Wilts & Dorset was a partner in a bid to government to make Wallisdown Road a “Bus Showcase Corridor” and improve the service – but then reduced a necessary route.

“Feelings are high in the area and the service is sorely missed,” he said.

Ed Wills, divisional director at Wilts & Dorset pledged to review the route.

“We made changes to sections of the 14 service from the Wallisdown roundabout to offer better links to residents of West and East Howe with Poole,” he said.

“We are keen to provide necessary links to the hospital and we are looking to amend the service following ongoing discussions with a number of local residents and working in conjunction with Bournemouth and Poole councils.

“Any amendments could be implemented by September,” he added.

The petition has been referred to Borough of Poole’s transportation advisory group.
