A CABINET member and former deputy leader of Poole council is to stand down in May.

Cllr Don Collier has announced he will not stand for re-election after 12 years representing Parkstone for the Conservatives.

Cllr Collier stood in the South West England constituency at the European elections in 2009 and would like to be adopted as a prospective parliamentary candidate.

He is Dorset co-ordinator for the No to AV Campaign ahead of the referendum in May.

Cllr Collier, 54, who runs his own IT consultancy, listed a number of achievements of which he was most proud including the blue recycling bins scheme, reducing the carbon footprint of the council and the licensing policy.

He said his one regret was the slow adoption of biomass boilers.
