IT might officially be summer – but Britain faces a “brolly and sunblock” washout before a dazzling August, according to weather forecasters.

Meterologists at Positive Weather Solutions predict there will be a mixed bag of good and bad weather until temperatures soar to above 30C in August.

Despite recent sunshine, experts say highest recorded temperatures will stay untouched this year.

But the warmer spell will be good news for those on school holidays, Senior forecaster Jonathan Powell, who predicted a barbecue summer for 2010, said: “Summer does not look as good as the last two years.

“June will be unsettled as thunderstorms bring warmer periods to an abrupt end, before July improves a little and August offers the best of the summer.”

The south can expect to see mid to high 20s in late July, edging over into the 30s.

Friday was the hottest day of the year so far, and the Met office is predicting temperatures will creep into the high teens again at the end of the week.

But Richard Wild, senior forecaster at Bournemouth-based Weathernet, said that was optimistic.

Today will be a dry 13C, moving into sunshine and showers on Wednesday and a cloudy Thursday with some rain. April starts of with plenty of sunshine at 15C.

Sunday looks cloudy and overcast for the Bournemouth Bay Run, with moderate to heavy winds making for a cool 11C.

Richard said: “Things will be a little more unsettled than we’ve seen lately, with a little bit of rain and temperatures getting cooler.”
