ARSON investigators probing three heathland attacks on the same day fear someone could be seriously injured if the deliberate fires continue.

Three fires were started on two of Poole’s urban heaths earlier this week.

No one was injured but a substantial area of protected habitat was destroyed.

PC Dave Street wants witnesses to come forward as “a matter of urgency” in a bid to “prevent the possibility of serious injury to members of the public.”

Firefighters rushed to Bourne Bottom nature reserve, at the rear of Benbow Crescent, just after 6pm on Monday, after a small area of heath was torched.

Four hours later, at Turbary Common, two separate fires were deliberately started – destroying around 50 square metres of heath in total.

PC Street appealed to heath users to keep a lookout and added: “I know it’s sometimes difficult for people to pass information to the police but those people need to know that by helping us they will be helping to save a rare and important habitat that is internationally protected.”
