AN array of colourful pyjamas were on parade at Bournemouth seafront on Sunday as family, friends and colleagues of a much-loved nursery worker raised money for a memorial in her honour.

Emily Barrett, 30, who worked at Talbot Woods Nursery sadly died last year after battling leukaemia.

Devastated by her death, staff and parents from the nursery were determined to keep her memory alive and focused their energies on creating a permanent memorial in her name.

The nursery is part of Bright Horizons Family Solutions who as part of its own charity, The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, create areas within women’s refuges where children can safely relax and play with their family.

And to raise money for a Bright Space in Emily’s name, nursery colleagues, parents and children along with Emily’s fiancé Kevin Chant and her best friend Cate Preston took part in a sponsored walk in their bedtime attire on Sunday morning.

Lucy Short, who worked closely with Emily, said: “She was a very loving person who had so much patience with people.

“She had a great sense of humour as well.

“This has really brought everyone together at a very sad time.

“We were all so devastated at losing her that we needed to do something positive.

“We hope that this Bright Space will reflect Emily – a warm and loving place where people can feel comforted.”

As well as fundraising for the memorial itself, the team will raise money for the facility on an on-going basis.
