EIGHT arrests were made for public order offences following the south coast derby between AFC Bournemouth and Southampton on Saturday.

There was a heavy police presence around Dean Court on match day as the League One rivals met for the second time this season.

Police said they were alerted to two or three isolated incidents of public disorder along Holdenhurst Road at around 5.30pm.

They closed the road in the interests of public safety and the St Paul’s roundabout was closed briefly so that fans could be dispersed and that Saints fans could be directed to the railway station. The roads were re-opened by 6.20pm.

The eight men arrested for a variety of public order offences were assisting police with their enquiries.
