STREET parties to celebrate the upcoming royal wedding have been made easier by Dorset County Council.

As the nation plans its celebrations for when Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot, anyone planning a street party in the county will find the way smoothed.

Peter Finney, Dorset County Council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “We are keen to minimise the red tape around organising a street party so that communities can plan and enjoy the festivities without too much hassle.

“We do suggest, however, that people consider the risks that may exist when organising an event so that they can do whatever they can to avoid anything spoiling the fun.”

The council has simplified its road closure application form, and reduced the minimum notice period for a road closure from three months, to an absolute minimum of four weeks.

Anyone wanting a road for a street party on April 29 – the big day – should return their application form to the county council by no later than Monday April 4.
