A SCHOOL run mum was left terrified and in tears by a road rage attack in which a crazed man stole her car keys.

Mum-of-two Tracy Polley, 44, was driving her 12-year-old son and his friend home from school when she fell victim to a “maniac” driver.

The horrifying incident ended with him using his car to block her path, screaming abuse in her face, then stealing her car keys from the ignition and driving off.

Tracy told the Echo: “We lived in South Africa for 33 years but I’ve never come across anybody like that in all my life. What an outrageous man – he was like a monster.

“I had my little boy and his friend in the car as well which was the worst.”

Tracy had picked up the boys at Poole High School and was on her way home to Hamworthy at around 3.15pm on Thursday last week when she spotted the man in her rear-view mirror while waiting at the George Roundabout.

“I could see he was shouting and making signs, flashing his lights and hooting,” she added. “I thought what on earth is wrong with this man.”

The other car, thought to be a black Honda, “almost hit” her on the roundabout and cut her up as they went over the Towngate Bridge.

After the next roundabout he turned his car in front of hers, using it to block West Quay Road, outside the RNLI.

Tracy made the mistake of opening her window as he approached “He was swearing and effing and blinding – calling me a b-word – all the words were flowing out of his mouth,” she added. “He was shouting right in my face. He stuck his hand through the window – I thought he was going to hit me, that’s what scared me – but he grabbed my keys, went straight back to his car and drove off.”

Amazingly Tracy said the raging man had two children “younger than hers” in his car.

In shock and crying, she called her husband who came to her rescue with a spare set of keys, while her son Ryan called police.

“He scared me stiff,” she said. “I was absolutely petrified to drive. I’m back to normal now but it took a good few days. Now I keep looking for black Hondas. I hope he doesn’t follow me – it’s frightening.”

She said she wanted to warn others about this “lunatic”.

Dorset Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 01202 222222.
