A CAMPAIGN to save a Poole music venue threatened with closure is gathering pace.

Chords, on Kingland Road, was shut suddenly last Monday by the police and council over accusations of serious crime and violence.

The bar now faces a crucial licensing hearing on March 1 to determine its future.

Shocked customers, who describe the venue as one of the safest in Poole, have been galvanised into action.

Dozens of letters of support have already been handed in to owners Lorraine and Karl Vogts for presentation at the licence review.

A Facebook group – Save Chords – has attracted almost 300 followers and a petition looks set to be launched.

Comments of support have also been registered on the Daily Echo website.

Littlecomet, from Hamworthy, said: “The closure is ridiculous.

“I go to Chords fairly regularly and I can’t say I’ve seen much violence there.”

Chords said they had been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

The venue has built a reputation for attracting top alternative acts since opening in 2009, including chart-topper Tinie Tempah and Welsh rockers Funeral for a Friend.

The licensing hearing takes place at Upton House at 2pm on March 1.

A gig is being organised to try to raise funds for the embattled bar.

Anyone who can help with a venue for the gig can contact the bar through their Facebook page.
