MORE than 30 motorists were stopped in just one day as part of the Dorset-wide No Excuse campaign.

Police in Bournemouth and Westbourne carried out the road safety operation on Wednesday as part of its campaign to reduce road casualties in Dorset.

Officers targeted motorists committing offences including not wearing seatbelts, using a mobile phone while driving and breaking the speed limit.

All drivers stopped were advised about the potential consequences of dangerous driving and the effect on the wider community.

They were also given No Excuse leaflets containing road safety advice.

Five fixed penalty notices were issued to drivers flouting traffic laws in the area.

Cracking down on speeding is a top priority of the Westbourne and West Cliff Safer Neighbourhood Team following consultation with the public.

Bournemouth Central Section Commander, Insp Wayne Nock, said he was ‘pleased’ with the operation’s outcome.
