AT the end of last year we previewed some of the films that would be coming to a cinema near you in 2011. However, there is so much to look forward to, we think a second round up is in order!

If you missed our first blog, you can view it here

The King’s Speech

UNLESS you’ve been living in a cave, you will be aware of the huge buzz this film is generating.

Colin Firth plays King George VI who calls on Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) to help him overcome his stammer.

The King’s Speech is already nominated for a clutch of awards at the Golden Globes, and Geoffrey Barnes from Ontario (one of our commenters who has already seen the film), mentioned in our previous blog that this film should dominate the Academy Awards. We’ll soon find out if it does. Out January 7.

The Fighter

Another film that’s created more buzz than a load of bees is The Fighter.

The drama centres on the life of professional junior welterweight boxer ‘Irish’ Micky Ward, played by Mark Wahlberg, and how he finds success in the ring after his half-brother, Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale), is plunged into drugs, violence and prison. Out February 4.

True Grit

The Coen brothers give a fresh take with their adaptation of Charles Portis' 1968 novel, which was previously adapted for film in 1969 starring John Wayne.

The American Western stars John Brolin, Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon.

An all star cast and award winning filmmakers behind it, do we smell another award contender?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

CAN you believe the first Harry Potter film was released ten years ago?

We watched Harry, Hermione and Ron (and the actors that play them) grow up in front of our very eyes during their time at Hogwarts and become fully trained in magic.

The trio has fought the evil Lord Voldemort for years and now they attempt to destroy him. The film is set to be the must-see of the summer and is released on July 15.

Plans for Deathly Hallows Part One to be available in 3D had to be shelved when Warner Brothers revealed they didn’t have enough time to complete the post-production conversion, but hopefully the second instalment will be in 2D and 3D as planned.

It will be the first film in the Harry Potter film series to be released in 3D and is sure to be a thrilling finale.

Is this the last we’ll see of our protagonists? J.K. Rowling recently hinted that another Harry Potter book could be on the cards…

Thor

THOR is the latest superhero from Marvel Comics to be given the big screen treatment. Chris Hemsworth takes on the role of the god of thunder based on Norse mythological deity of the same name.

Thor's actions reignite an ancient war and he is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. He learns what it takes to be a real hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Kenneth Branagh takes on directing duties and the film also stars Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman and Josh Hartnett. ETA May.

Breaking Dawn

THE vampire craze shows no signs of stopping.

The final book from the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer is doing a Deathly Hallows and being split into two films. The first part sinks its teeth in November, with the second dropping in November 2012.

The franchise has made global stars of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, with Eclipse scoring the number six spot in the top ten highest grossing films at the worldwide box office in 2010. We suspect the sequel will perform well too.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

WE’LL find out on December 26 if Rooney Mara can cut it as Lisbeth Salander when the English language remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is released.

Daniel Craig is on board as journalist Mikael Blomkvist and David Fincher is directing, so it sounds like it could be a winner, but we’re having difficulty imagining anyone else but Noomi Rapace playing the gutsy heroine.

The Adventures Of Tinton: The Secret Of The Unicorn

A BEVY of talented people join forces on this upcoming 3D film based on The Adventures Of Tintin.

Steven Spielberg directed it, Brits Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish wrote the screenplay and Peter Jackson produced it. Jamie Bell plays the quiffed young reporter; accompanied by his faithful dog Snowy and his friend Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis).

And the rest

There’s more Marvel Comics action with X-Men: First Class; animated fun in the form of The Smurfs, Shrek spin-off Puss In Boots and Kung Fu Panda 2, plus a readaptation of Brighton Rock
