ANGER is mounting over the failure of Poole council to collect residents’ rubbish this week.

While all neighbouring councils resumed refuse collections after the snowy weather, Borough of Poole cancelled four days in a row.

Crews were due to go out on their normal black bin rounds today so residents of the Canford Cliffs area should have their waste collected.

But there will be no recycling rounds and employees have been helping out with gritting duties across the borough.

Shaun Robson, head of environmental and consumer protection, apologised to residents.

“Planned refuse collections will be attempted on Friday where conditions allow,” he said. “Residents are advised to present their bins as normal and where possible we will collect. If your bin is not collected present it on the next scheduled collection day.”

Ann Smith, 67, of Garland Road, whose black wheelie bin was due for collection on Tuesday, said: “It’s an absolute disgrace. I’m a pensioner and I don’t drive. I can’t take my rubbish to the tip.”

She said: “We have got absolutely no ice in this area at all. The roads are perfectly clear and have been for days. I’m really annoyed about it.”

The Daily Echo’s story about Poole being the only authority to cancel normal wheelie bin collections for four days resulted in scant sympathy for the council from angry online readers.

Lupatria, Poole said: “I am partially disabled and have my bin pulled out and put back. I already have a full wheelie bin and a full swing bin which is in my kitchen.

“I have nowhere to store rubbish and cannot put bags outside as the animals will tear them apart searching for food. It is an open invitation to cats, foxes and rats.”

The Liberal wrote: “The snow and ice seem to have largely disappeared and traffic is flowing freely on most roads.

“So, as far as I can see, there is absolutely no reason the regular collections could not have been made today.”
