ICY winds are set to move into Dorset tomorrow, possibly bringing more snow.

A bout of cold, wet weather is moving south from the Arctic, and neighbouring Devon and Cornwall will get the worst of the conditions.

Dorset will probably miss the snow until the weekend, but a weather warning predicting "widespread icy roads" remains in force across the week.

A spokesman said the weather would become “bitterly cold, with strong northerly winds and ice developing”.

Tomorrow’s daytime temperatures are projected to reach highs of around 7C in Bournemouth and Poole.

But as the weather deteriorates, the temperature will plunge to –5C overnight, and less inland.

The rain may turn into sleet and snow and north-westerly winds will reach 10-20mph.

On Friday the daytime temperature will hover around freezing, with winds of around 16mph and gusts reaching around 30mph.

Dr Richard Wild, from Bournemouth based forecaster Weather net, said there was some chance of the sleet and rain on Friday turning to snow.

But he added: “It would only be a light dusting, 1cm at most.”

Saturday’s daytime temperatures are projected to reach highs of around 3C and there will be more rain, and possibly snow showers, over the weekend.

A spokesman for Dorset County Council said: “Our gritting crews will be on standby and ready to respond throughout periods of forecasted bad weather, with ploughs also on standby to clear any accumulations of snow. The gritting teams also went out across the county last night.”
