VOLUNTEERS are needed to become school governors in the Bournemouth area.
Vacancies in schools across the borough have prompted the School Governors One Stop Shop (SGOSS) to appeal to members of the public who want to make a difference.
Anyone interested must be over 18 and have six to eight hours to spare each month. They do not need to be parents and do not need special educational knowledge or qualifications.
“Becoming a school governor is a great chance to learn new skills or enhance the ones you already have in a new environment,” said SGOSS chief executive Steve Acklam.
“By working as a critical friend to head teachers, governors make managerial decisions about a range of issues including curriculum, financial matters and school staffing. “The most important thing is to have enthusiasm and you can ensure children are provided with a great education and therefore a good start in life.”
School governors are the largest group of volunteers in the country.
Anyone interested in taking on the role in Bournemouth is urged to email Janette Banks at Janette.Banks@ bournemouth.gov.uk.
