A CHRISTCHURCH councillor has rejected the idea of resignation following a standards board appeal being thrown out.
Leading Christchurch councillor David Jones, chairman of the planning committee, applied to a first-tier tribunal following a censure by the council’s standards committee in August for failing to investigate a complaint.
They found Cllr Jones had brought the office of committee chairman into disrepute.
The complaint by Terry Morgan, who represents West Christchurch Residents’ Association, centred upon delays in answering correspondence.
At the time Cllr Jones refused to accept the findings although said he was pleased to be cleared of failing to show respect. A subsequent appeal application to the first-tier tribunal was thrown out.
Cllr Jones said: “There is no question of my resigning while I enjoy the confidence of the leadership and the members of the planning committee.”
