In contrast to the dull, wet August and exceptionally sunny June, September was very much an average month, with the mean temperature and total sunshine both close to normal.
It was rather changeable in character, with no lengthy spells of either wet or dry weather, but rainfall amounts were insignificant until the last two days of the month.
Temperatures were on the warm side until the 17th, with south to south-westerly winds prevalent. Subsequent values were somewhat lower as the winds veered from between west and north, but south-westerlies returned on the 28th, with prolonged rain on the following day while the last night was wet and windy.
Rain fell more frequently than usual during the month but the total amount was below average for the ninth September in the last ten years.
