BOURNEMOUTH’S Christmas market will be run by S&D Leisure for the second year after a successful revamp last time around.

The company, which operates many of the leisure facilities by the pier, is staging an international market with a German feel.

There will be around 50 new alpine chalets with Christmas lights, a bar, bratwurst stands, a crepe stall, brass bands and more.

The market will run from November 19 until December 24 and business leaders think free parking will entice people to town.

Cars can park for free at selected council sites during the market on Sundays from November 28, and on Thursdays after 6pm from December 2.

Drivers can also get two free hours parking in the Richmond Hill Car Park from 8am to 10am on Saturdays during the period.

Roger Parker, the town centre manager, said: “We are building on the foundations of last year and bringing a spectacle to the town.

“We are also going to trying to attract people to other areas of the town like The Triangle so it becomes more inclusive.”

Nigel Hedges, president of Bournemouth Chamber of Trade, said: “The activity and commitment that S&D adds to the town is unprecedented.”
