FERNDOWN’S post office re-opened on Saturday after it was closed following the dismissal of its sub-postmistress.
Rachpal Athwal had been sacked from the town’s only post office following an appeal.
She had been supported by the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters. Her husband Val had insisted she had been dismissed over an issue which could have been caused by a computer glitch or human error.
Post Office Limited issued a brief statement on Saturday morning, saying the office had re-opened. “Our first priority has been to restore services to our customers and we are pleased to have reached a resolution in this matter which is in the best interest of local people,” it said.
Val Athwal, the proprietor of the business, siad his wife had been cleared following the latest review.
He thanked local customers, businesses and the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters for their help.
“Last but not least I would like to thank all my wonderful staff for their great support and loyalty,” he added.
