DETECTIVES investigating an attack on a schoolgirl in Poole have now revealed the 15-year-old was seriously sexually assaulted.

Officers have released a description of a man they want to speak to following the incident close to family homes in Northmere Drive, Rossmore, last Sunday evening.

He is described as in his late 40s or early 50s, six feet tall, of skinny build with medium length dark greying hair and a crooked nose.

He was reported to be wearing black shoes, black trousers and a short black jacket, possibly quilted or fleecy, with a light-coloured hooded top underneath.

Detective Inspector Steve Thorpe, of the Bournemouth and Poole Public Protection Unit, said: “I would encourage this man – or anyone who knows him – to contact me as soon as possible.”

Witnesses in the area at the time also reported seeing a white van in Northmere Drive. It is thought that the driver turned the vehicle around before driving off.

DI Thorpe added: “I am keen to speak to the driver of this vehicle as he may have valuable information which will help me with my investigation.

“Anyone who witnessed this sexual assault, or who has any information relating to the incident, should contact me urgently.”

The assault took place between 8pm and 8.20pm on Sunday, September 26 in a wooded area opposite the allotments on Northmere Drive.

Police sealed off the area, and an alley running behind homes was also taped off the following day as officers searched the area.

Several police cars, a van and a dog unit attended the scene, along with scenes of crimes officers.

Residents, who had not been told what had happened, told the Daily Echo they heard police activity around 10pm on Sunday.
