POLICE are warning parents to be careful after several children were approached by strangers asking: “Would you like to see some puppies?”

Officers are on alert after several similar suspicious incidents in north Dorset, though it is not year clear if the cases are linked.

In four cases – all this week – children were also asked by strangers if they wanted a lift.

All the incidents have occurred since Monday.

Police who cover Blandford, Shaftesbury and Gillingham are investigating.

Detectives revealed the news of the suspicious incidents on Friday.

In every single case, the wary children refused the offers and told their parents straight away.

Inspector Shawn Whitley, head of north Dorset Police, said: “Although the reports don’t appear to be linked as the descriptions of both the people and vehicles involved are very different, all are being treated as a priority.

“High visibility patrols have been stepped up in areas where reported incidents have taken place and each report is being investigated.

“Safer Neighbourhood officers are working closely with local schools to encourage parents and pupils to remain vigilant.”
