A FURIOUS pet owner believes his beloved Cassi could be another victim of the mastiff-type dog described in the Echo this week.

Robert Mitchell’s nine-year-old miniature schnauzer suffered a punctured lung and needed 30 stitches.

One bite to her chest missed her aorta – the largest blood vessel in her body – by only 2mm.

“It was horrible – my wife was covered in blood,” said Mr Miller, 68, who recently moved from Spain to a temporary home at Shorefield Country Park, near Milford-on-Sea.

“She is like a child to us – so it was very traumatic to have your child picked up in the jaws of a dog. Her shoulder was shredded.”

Cassi is now recovering well from the attack, which took place near Bournemouth railway station in August, but Mr Miller is warning other owners the dog may be a repeat offender – the same one described in a report of a “dog on dog” attack in Monday’s Echo. In that case, a Yorkshire terrier was so badly savaged in Nortoft Road, Charminster, that one leg was amputated.

Both times the dog had the red and brown mix of colours known as “brindle”.

Mr Mitchell is calling for more action from the council’s dog wardens and wants to see the dog identified and put to sleep. “It might attack a child next,” he said.

Bournemouth council said it did not receive enough information about either attack to investigate further.

Dean Shepherd, animal welfare officer, said: “We take reports of dog attacks very seriously but on this occasion we have very little information, and unfortunately that makes it extremely difficult to trace the owner.”
