A SUPERMARKET worker who is battling against the effects of multiple sclerosis had his £600 racing bicycle stolen from outside his workplace on Friday.

Peter Goodwin, 54, was diagnosed with the progressive disease four years ago, and uses the bike to keep as fit as he can.

He left the red Trek 1200 bike chained up on a bike rack outside Tesco in Ferndown at 1pm, but it was gone when he finished his shift at 10pm.

“It was a good job it’s only a short walk, otherwise I would have struggled to get home,” he said.

“With the MS, I try to keep up a bit of exercise. My legs don’t work properly. I have a mobility scooter, but I try not to use it.”

He admitted that the bike, which would cost £1,000 to replace, was his “pride and joy”.

The theft has been reported to the police and Mr Goodwin is hoping there will be CCTV footage.

“I hope someone will spot the bike. I would love the thief to return it,” he said.

Last week, the Echo reported how a healthcare worker had her locked bike stolen from an area covered by a security camera at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital while she worked a weekend night shift, pictured left.

Andrea Macdonald branded the thief a “low life”.
