IT is set to be another record year with over 200 young people expected to take up the challenge to set up and manage their own company by participating in the Young Enterprise Company programme.

Six Bournemouth and Poole schools have so far signed up to be part of the multiple schools scheme, with a further nine schools offering the programme internally. The Grange is offering the programme to their year 12 pupils advised by Simon Booth, managing director of Aqua Care based in Christchurch.

He said: “Aquacare are absolutely delighted to be the business partner and mentor for The Grange School’s foray into the very worthwhile and inspirational Young Enterprise Scheme. “AquaCare will be working closely with a group of sixth form students, offering them business advice, a support network as well as encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit which will enable them to thrive in the outside business world.”

Lynne Kelly, a teacher at Parkstone Grammar School, provides their year 12s with the opportunity to mix with pupils from other schools around the area.

So far over 20 girls will be taking part across three different companies.

In the last two years girls from the school have represented the county at the regional final.

Lynne said: “I personally think the YE programme is a fantastic opportunity; it allows students to gain the necessary life skills needed for the real world.

“When would they get the chance to present to a room full of strangers, run their own business and become financially literate at their young age?”

The programme in Bourne-mouth and Poole is co-ordinated by Hannah Cook.

She said: “The standard and enthusiasm of the young achievers has improved every year and I look forward to welcoming this year’s achievers to the programme. “I am sure pupils will continue to exceed expectations with their innovative and exciting products.”
