SPECTATORS watching the first-ever evening display at a Bournemouth Air Festival saw a breathtaking demonstration of world-class flying last night.

The Red Devils, the Parachute Regiment’s freefall team, kicked off the proceedings, with seven men jumping from more than 5,000ft on to the beach, but the weather prevented them from showing their full range of skills.

They were followed by the vintage Hunter jet Miss Demeanour, her bright livery standing out against the dimming grey sky as she repeatedly roared past the crowds; and the aerobatic manoeuvres of the CAP 232, seemingly defying the laws of physics.

As the dusk deepened towards night, the first day drew to a close with a beautiful show of wingtip fireworks from a towed Swift Glider.

Although no more evening flying is scheduled for this year’s festival, the Night Air evening entertainment will be going on through the weekend.
