INJURED soldier Ben Parkinson has become a patron for a charity run by ex-special forces soldiers as they gear up for their latest challenge.

The 26-year-old lost both his legs in Afghanistan in 2006 and suffered memory loss and skull fractures. At the time was described as the most severely injured survivor of the war.

He has agreed to support The Pilgrim Bandits, a New Forest- based group of former SAS and SBS men, who are staging a 100km run and walk in October.

They will raise money for The Rifles’ ‘Care for Casualties Appeal’; a foundation named after Welsh Guardsman Richard Hunt and a charity for soldiers with post traumatic stress.

They have the support of Dixon Stewart solicitors, Highcliffe.

The event on October 9 is open to anyone but the 100km is an “extreme” challenge.

People taking part include Kevin Hale from West Parley, brother of Winton raised Captain Mark Hale, who was killed in Afghanistan in August 2009.
