A FRESH attempt to redevelop a Bournemouth car park has seen plans for 208 flats replaced by a scheme that would include two hotels.

Previous proposals to build 208 flats on the Terrace Mount car park were put on ice because of the slowdown in the housing market.

Now new developer Havard Tisdale is seeking permission to build two hotels, 59 residential flats and 224 underground car parking spaces on the prime site.

One hotel would be a 167 bedroom, four-star establishment with a health club, swimming pool, function rooms, restaurant and bar.

The other would be a 114 bedroom, two or three-star premises with a café for guests. Of the apartments, 14 will be luxury flats located above the hotel and benefiting from stunning sea views.

A total of 150 car parking spaces would be used as a public, short-stay car park and there would be a new access route created on Upper Terrace Road for shoppers to access the public car park.

Peter Tisdale, of Havard Tisdale, said: “We are committed to developing this prominent site and, planning consent permitting, we hope to start works on site before the end of the year.

“We are currently talking to a number of leading brand hotels and will announce the proposed hoteliers when contracts are signed in the coming months.”

And his partner John Havard added: “There is no longer a market for the hundreds of apartments that the approved scheme delivered, and we believe that the two hotels will not only generate over 100 jobs for local people, but also attract more visitors to the town.”

The plans are expected to go before the council’s planning committee in August or September.
