AN astonishing photo-blog charting a year in the life of a Swanage family has proved a big hit on the internet.

The blog, by photographer Nikki Harman, was launched last May as part of that year’s Purbeck Art Week initiative.

Hundreds of people started following the blog and, despite it finishing more than a month ago, Nikki is often asked to post more photographs online.

Nikki, a married mum-of-two, said: “I really wanted to do a photo-blog about living as a family in Purbeck, just to show people it is possible to live the dream, to change your life.

“I wanted to publicise Purbeck and Dorset as such a lovely place to live.”

Nikki, 35, moved back to Swanage in 2008, after living for a decade in urban Slough, near London’s Heathrow Airport.

She explained: “My husband and I were getting fed up with living where we were, and we didn’t want our kids growing up in Slough.

“So we spent two years planning how we were going to afford the move to Swanage, where I grew up.

“We risked everything to get down here and it has worked out brilliantly.

“The photo-blog is as much about showing people they can simplify their lives and follow their dreams as it is about promoting Purbeck as a wonderful place to live and bring up children.”

The blog included a new photograph every day and Nikki admits it was a bit of a relief when the year came to an end.

But she added: “Quite a lot of people have come up to me and said they really like the blog and am I going to carry on with it. Now I am looking at the idea of making it into a book.

“People tell me they read it on an evening, with a glass of wine, as part of their routine.”
