POLICE and fire officers are investigating two separate arson attacks after three heathland fires overnight.

Emergency services received a dozen calls to heath fire off Evering Avenue at Alderney just before midnight.

Three seats of fire were identified, all believed to have been started deliberately.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

There were also fires on heath at Durley Chine on Bournemouth’s West Cliff, next to the Marriott Highcliff and at Queen’s Park Golf Club.

More than 50 calls concerning the fire at Durley Chine were received by the fire service around 10.50pm last night.

Around 34 fire fighters were called to the blaze involving a large area of undergroiwth and scrub.

Fire fighters had the fire surrounded by 12.15am and it is believed to have started accidentally.

Crews left the scene around 7am this morning after damping down.
