KYLE Howarth produced another stunning last-gasp pass to pull off a fantastic race seven triumph at Mildenhall yesterday.

But it wasn’t enough to save Buccaneers from a late collapse as they lost 53-37 against Fen Tigers after being only 34-32 behind with four heats to go.

Bournemouth Castle Cover’s youngster repeated his last-heat heroics from Scunthorpe when he bravely swooped outside Mark Burrows to take the chequered flag and snatch a 45-45 draw on Friday.

And at dusty West Row, he blasted wide to pick up drive and pip experienced Mildenhall skipper Barrie Evans to the line by less than a wheel’s length.

Howarth’s spectacular trademark manoeuvre meant Buccaneers salvaged a 3-3 instead of conceding a 4-2 at a time when his side was still firmly in contention for an away success.

If Howarth can improve his gating – and that will surely come with more experience – he’s going to become a real handful as he pursues a career at the top level.

Already, he has become one to watch on the third tier terraces with his exciting brand of fully committed, breathtaking racing.

Even home fans, when Buccaneers are on their travels, seem to take to his whole-hearted approach to riding as much as Bournemouth’s own supporters have.

On yesterday’s evidence, surely it won’t be long until Howarth is pushing for a Premier League heat leader berth.

He followed his 15 at Scunthorpe with nine at West Row, but Mildenhall had the match-winner in reserve Oliver Rayson, who bagged three wins in his polished 12 paid 14.

Kyle Hughes, guesting for Chris Mills, top-scored for Buccaneers with 12, and was the only rider to beat Jerran Hart.
