I READ a piece the other day that said we’ve become sick of sequels.

Cinema-goers are becoming bored of franchise follow-ups and remakes and crave something new and exciting.

Between May-August this year, 11 releases are going to be revisits and continuations.

Most recently we’ve had Sex And The City 2, Iron Man 2, Death At A Funeral, Rec2, Robin Hood, with The A-Team, Eclipse, Shrek Forever After, The Karate Kid, Toy Story 3 and Predators all lined-up for later this summer.

There’s no doubt follow-ups can be tricky. SATC2 received less than gleaming reviews and disappointing ticket sales, with the third instalment said to be hanging in the balance.

But there are some revisits that have delivered.

The Empire Strikes Back was voted the best movie sequel of all time in April. Toy Story 2, Shrek 2, Terminator 2 and Lord of the Rings The Two Towers and The Return of the King are all brilliant. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are far superior to Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

Are you a sequel or reboot cynic, and are left wondering where the new ideas have gone?

Or do you look forward to the prospect of seeing your favourite characters return to the big screen in sequels?
